Use a cloth style tape measure to measure your pet's neck. Add two or three inches to the length.

Collars should be snug, but leave room to fit two fingers between your dog's neck and the collar.

If you don't have a cloth tape measure, you can use a string or end of a leash to measure around your pet's neck. Mark the length with pinched fingers and lay it on a ruler or tape measure.

Other handy measuring instruments are a standard sheet of paper ( 8 1/2" x 11") or a dollar bill (2.5" x 6"). Just fold and tape together to discover the size of your pet's neck.
